#GivingTuesday

December 1, 2015

click-here-box-200The Alliance for Safe Kids (ASK) has joined #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. Occurring this year on December 1, #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday to kick-off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support.

ASK joined #GivingTuesday in an effort to match funds and continue local programming that promotes awareness and prevention of substance use/ abuse and other destructive behaviors damaging to our youth.

“Last month, ASK was awarded a Federal Drug Free Communities Grant of $125,000; however, in order to receive the funding, we are required to match each dollar with local funds and volunteer commitments by September 2016” said Erica Stanzione, Director of Communications and Partnerships at ASK. “We hope that #GivingTuesday will provide a convenient opportunity for the Yorktown Community members to participate, in even a small way, to meet the requirements of this well-deserved community grant.”
