#GivingTuesday

ASK has joined #GivingTuesday!

October 23, 2015 - The Alliance for Safe Kids (ASK) has joined #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. Occurring this year on December 1, #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday to kick-off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support.

ASK joined #GivingTuesday in an effort to match funds and continue local programming that promotes awareness and prevention of substance use/ abuse and other destructive behaviors damaging to our youth.

“Last month, ASK was awarded a Federal Drug Free Communities Grant of $125,000; however, in order to receive the funding, we are required to match each dollar with local funds and volunteer commitments by September 2016” said Erica Stanzione, Director of Communications and Partnerships at ASK. “We hope that #GivingTuesday will provide a convenient opportunity for the Yorktown Community members to participate, in even a small way, to meet the requirements of this well-deserved community grant.”

ASK is a collaboration within the community – parents, teens, educators, law enforcement, government, medical professionals, businesses, faith leaders, civic groups – aimed at providing youth with consistent information and skills needed to make healthy decisions while emphasizing the need for families to protect and nurture their children by getting informed and staying involved. By partnering with all areas of the community, we collectively strengthen the safety net that protects our youth.
