Informing and Empowering Students
April 2, 2017: Save A Life
Save A Life is a program designed by the Alliance for Safe Kids (ASK) to inform and empower high school students and adults to become community allies and first responders to support teens and families in crisis. Save A Life is one of ASK’s leading programs which has directly touched the lives of over 2,500 community members.
Since 2005, there have been over 45 deaths in the Yorktown - Cortlandt Manor communities alone, deaths that have been attributed to drugs and alcohol abuse, depression, as well as physical abuse, bullying and violence. It's time to break the cycle of death, sorrow and regret.
Save A Life featured Keynote Speaker Jacy Good, a nationally-recognized public speaker and advocate for cellphone-free roads. Since Jacy’s miraculous recovery from a 2008 crash caused by a distracted driver, that claimed the lives of both her parents and left her partially paralyzed, she has worked tirelessly to educate the country about the dangers of cell phone use behind the wheel. Jacy and her husband, Steve Johnson, will help ASK to enforce our “STOP TXTING U R DRIVING” initiative.
ASK was thrilled to honor News 12 Anchor, Tara Rosenblum, for her award-winning ‘Hooked on Heroin’ coverage. With the use of heroin rising over the past few years in the Hudson Valley, Tara took an in-depth look at the heroin epidemic and the lives of those who have been impacted. Over her career, Tara has earned more than 100 major industry awards, including 16 Emmy awards and 66 Emmy nominations, five of them for New York's top 'General Assignment' reporter.
Save A Life also featured unique Interactive Workshops for Adults and High School Students:
All Save A Life participants were rewarded with the annual Taste of Yorktown experience: a room filled with signature dishes from local restaurants to thank the participants for volunteering their Sunday afternoon to both teach and learn skills to better their community. Program Certificates (for resumes/portfolios) and five community service hours were given to all high school participants.
Save A Life was FREE for all participants, thanks to underwriting sponsors:
