Informing and Empowering Students
Save A Life: March 18, 2018
Save A Life is a program designed to inform and empower high school students and adults to become community allies and first responders to support teens and families in crisis. In 2010, the Yorktown Interfaith Ministerial Association designed this program in order to combat preventable deaths in our community. ASK was thrilled to join these efforts and continue this program which has directly touched the lives of over 3,000 community members.
Since 2005, there have been over 50 deaths in the Yorktown - Cortlandt Manor communities alone, deaths that have been attributed to drugs and alcohol abuse, depression, as well as physical abuse, bullying and violence. It's time to break the cycle of death, sorrow and regret.
Save A Life 2018 features Dr. Michael Fowlin who is a clinical psychologist and nationally recognized speaker. Dr. Fowlin's acclaimed presentations cultivate an atmosphere of inclusion, and all audience members will leave his presentation empowered to accept the differences in themselves and others. This supports the ASK initiative involving mental wellness; helping to prevent a tragedy and save a life.
Save A Life also featured unique Interactive Workshops for Adults and High School Students. Student workshops include: *House Parties; *Heroin & Opioid Epidemic; *The Dating Game; *Tobacco, E-Cigs & Vaping; *Youth Mental Health; *Stress and Anxiety; *Bullying; and *EMT/Emergency Room Visits – Alcohol Poisoning & Drug Overdose.
