On Friday, November 18th, the Alliance for Safe Kids (ASK) hosted a Teen Night Music and Sports Party for 6th-8th grade students.
104 middle school students came together to celebrate in a fun, safe and substance-free environment at Club Fit Jefferson Valley. Activities included basketball contests, dancing, games, and de-stress workshops taught by students from the Yorktown High School National Honor Society.
The event was chaperoned by 30 high school volunteers, 16 adult volunteers, ASK staff and monitored by the Yorktown police department as part of their patrol route.
“Teen Nights create safe and substance-free evenings for middle-school teens to socialize,” said Erica Stanzione, Director of Communications at ASK. “It is important for teens to know that they can go out and have a good time with their friends without the presence of alcohol or drugs.”
“Teen Nights also provide our high school volunteers with leadership opportunities,” added Liz Talbert, Coalition Coordinator at ASK. “Our high school volunteers lead the activities and contests. They also have the opportunity to teach their younger peers healthy ways to relieve stress and anxiety from daily pressures. These activities are as simple as popping bubble wrap and coloring.”
Teen Nights are held three times a year. A special thank you to TD Bank for sponsoring ASK’s 2016 Teen Night Program as well as Club Fit for hosting this program each fall.
