Twenty Yorktown establishments have passed an underage drinking enforcement detail after not selling alcohol to undercover, underage agents on Wednesday, Nov. 27, Yorktown Police Chief Daniel McMahon said.
The enforcement detail, sponsored by the Alliance for Safe Kids, was part of a local, federally funded study to combat underage drinking.
The Yorktown businesses that were checked and did not sell alcohol to the underage agents were: Courtesy Shell, DeCicco’s Market Place in Jefferson Valley, Ginny’s Wine and Liquors, Hess Mart on Route 202, Chestnut Shell, Chestnut Mobil, 202 Gas Mart, Courtesy Mobil, Lakeland Deli, Lakeland Liquors, Shrub Oak Food Center, Shrub Oak Getty, Valley Market, Jefferson Valley Service Station Mini Mart and Steinman’s Gomer Street Deli.
In addition, five bars refused to sell alcohol to an underage agent. They include Finnegan’s Grill, Murphy’s Bar, AJ’s Bar, Southside Grill and Kirby’s.
Chief McMahon said the compliance checks are made possible through a Drug-Free Communities grant and these “random, unannounced compliance checks” will continue.
