The 24th annual celebration of Yorktown is set to draw thousands of people to Jack DeVito Veteran’s Memorial Field Saturday.
Yorktown’s Community Day runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the field located on Veterans Road in Yorktown Heights. The event promises to feature “The Taste of Yorktown” focusing on local restaurants and businesses and also features a showcase of local community organizations and entertainment for the whole family. The event is once again coordinated by the Alliance for Safe Kids.
ASK’s Executive Director Lisa Tomeny said the group is hoping to not only highlight local businesses but become the big family event of the year.
“Yorktown is a very special community and this day is all about celebrating what makes this town so special,” she said. “Having one venue to come together and support each other keeps this going year after year.”
Tomeny said it was important to bring more youth-based groups to Community Day.
“Giving the kids a venue to showcase things they’ve accomplished is always at the forefront for us,” she said. “One major component of what we do is to make sure kids are a pillar in the community because that is a real anchor for us.”
While Saturday’s weather promises to be warm, there will be a dunk tank and other activities for people to cool off, Tomeny said. For more information on Yorktown’s Community Day, please contact ASK at (914) 736-1450.
