The Alliance for Safe Kids, Inc. (ASK) is hosting the Seventh Annual Save a Life Forum on Sunday, April, 2 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Lakeland High School located at 1349 E. Main St. Shrub Oak, NY 10588.
Save A Life is a program designed to inform and empower high school students and adults to be community allies and first responders to support teens and families in crisis. As one of ASK’s leading programs, Save A Life has directly touched the lives of over 2,500 community members since 2010. Last year, nearly 500 members of the community attended.
Save A Life will feature Keynote Speaker Jacy Good, a nationally-recognized public speaker and advocate for cellphone-free roads. Since Jacy’s miraculous recovery from a 2008 crash caused by a distracted driver, that claimed the lives of both her parents and left her partially paralyzed, she has worked tirelessly to educate the country about the dangers of cell phone use behind the wheel. Jacy will help ASK to enforce our “STOP TXTING U R DRIVING” initiative.
ASK is thrilled to honor News 12 Anchor, Tara Rosenblum, for her award-winning ‘Hooked on Heroin’ coverage. With the use of heroin rising over the past few years in the Hudson Valley, Tara took an in-depth look at the heroin epidemic and the lives of those who have been impacted. Over her career, Tara has earned more than 100 major industry awards, including 16 Emmy awards and 66 Emmy nominations, five of them for New York’s top ‘General Assignment’ reporter.
Save A Life will also feature unique Interactive Workshops for Adults and High School Students such as: It’s Not Just About the Food, Understanding the Heroin Epidemic, Youth Mental Health First Aid, Dating Safety, and House Parties: Alcohol Drugs and the Law. Save A Life will also showcase dozens of local organizations and resources in an Interactive Exhibit Hall. These exhibits will include the Westchester County Driving Simulator, Crashed Car and “Hidden in Plain Sight” display which recreates a teen’s bedroom to help parents identify signs their son or daughter may be using alcohol and drugs.
All Save A Life participants will be rewarded with the annual Taste of Yorktown experience: a room filled with signature dishes from 12 local restaurants to thank the participants for volunteering their Sunday afternoon to both teach and learn skills to better their community. Program Certificates (for resumes/portfolios) and five community service hours will be given to all high school participants.
By devoting just one Sunday afternoon – a single afternoon of your life – YOU can take the first steps toward saving a friend. Register now.
Save A Life will be FREE for all participants, thanks to underwriting sponsors.
