On January 6th at 7:30 p.m., two ASK volunteers presented before the Yorktown Town Board at their Town Hall meeting. Jenna Gammer, a current Yorktown High School Senior and Anna Carbone, a graduate of the Yorktown High School Class of 2012 and current Junior at Marist College, teamed up to tell the board how ASK is making a difference. Jenna spoke about ASK’s wildly successful Teen Nights, and Anna went into detail about ASK’s upcoming annual Save-A-Life event. Both speakers mentioned how significantly ASK has influenced their lives, and how much they enjoy helping ASK promote a safe, healthy, informed community.
Jenna summarized the Teen Nights as a safe, comfortable, fun environment for our youth that successfully encourages a substance-free social life. Jenna showed the board how hundreds of Yorktown youth enjoying themselves in a safe manner through several photos.
Anna brought to the council’s attention that Save-A-Life will be taking place on February 8th at the Yorktown Stage and the Yorktown Community and Cultural Center. From 1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m., the day will be dedicated to educating teens and parents how to recognize when a friend is at risk, and how to take action to help them. Several presenters will be leading workshops on alcohol and drug abuse, depression, safe driving, healthy relationships, and more. ASK’s annual Taste of Yorktown will take place immediately following Save-A-Life, where participants will be able to taste food from over 10 local restaurants and vote for their favorite sample. The day is sure to leave members of our community inspired to make a difference.
