National Prescription Drug Take Back Day
October 26, 2019
DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is on Saturday, October 26th from 10am to 2pm, so save the date and mark your calendar!
We have repeatedly shown that preventing drug use before it begins, particularly among young people, is the most cost effective way to reduce drug use and its consequences. Take Back Day events provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing unused or expired prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications.
The DEA reports that during the last Take Back Day in April they collected 468 tons of unused or expired prescription medication. This brings the total amount of prescription drugs collected by DEA since the fall of 2010 to 11,816,393 pounds.
If you can’t make it on the 26th of October, don’t forget the Prescription Drug Disposal Unit is available 24/7 in the lobby of the Yorktown Police Department!
