Leon Drogy, vice president of the Mansion at Colonial Terrace, is certainly not new at hosting fundraising events at his restaurant. However, this weekend he’s trying to reach an audience a bit different from his usual clientele.
“We always do so many fundraisers for the kids where the parents are the ones at the events and going to the fundraisers,” Drogy said. “So we said, well why not do a fundraiser for the kids, where the kids can have fun too.”
This Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Yorktown families are invited to attend the first annual Family Fun Festival, hosted by the Mansion and the Alliance for Safe Kids.
Fun for the whole family is the goal of the event, said Alliance for Safe Kids Executive Director Lisa Tomeny.
“It’s a great way to capture every age group,” Tomeny said. “This is a way for us to host an event for families to come together and for parents to understand that they are a key in their kids’ lives. Sometimes you don’t feel like it, but parents really are. By hosting something for every age group, we can bring these families together in a fun setting, where they can all spend the day together no matter what age range their kids are and enjoy the day as a family.”
The event will feature inflatables, costumed characters, a teen nightclub, arts and crafts, contests and games, and food. re-registered admission is $10 per person and walk-ins are $15. Admission includes most attractions, activities and the food. All proceeds will benefit ASK.
“It’s going to be a beautiful day with great weather and the whole family gets to come out to one event where everyone will be entertained,” Drogy said. “It’s going to be great.”
