ASK is proud to announce our partnership with the iKeyp safe, the first smartphone-enabled personal safe designed to disrupt the cycle of prescription drug theft and abuse.
Our campaign launch coincides with The National Drug & Alcohol Facts Week, and extends through our Save A Life forum on April 2. The iKeyp safe is available to purchase at a discounted price of $109 at go.ikeyp.com
According to a 2014 study from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, every day 2,500 kids between the age of 12 and 17 abuse a prescription pain reliever for the first time. Many parents are not aware that their own medicine cabinets are potential sources of these drugs for teenage use. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has deemed prescription medication abuse an epidemic in the United States. An astounding 80% of heroin users report first using prescription pain relievers before inevitability turning to heroin, which has an almost identical chemical compound.
“We are thrilled to partner with iKeyp safe to reduce teen medicine abuse,” said Erica Stanzione, Director of Communications and Partnerships. “iKeyp safe is an extremely valuable tool to ensure prescription drugs stay out of the hands of children and teens. We are excited to be able to share this opportunity with our community.”
“The abuse of prescription medication, particularly pain relievers such as opioids, is destroying families and communities across the country,” said Jeffrey I. Hermann, founder of the iKeyp safe. “We are honored to support the vital work done by ASK and believe personal medication security is essential to stopping the prescription drug epidemic.”
