Yorktown police officers conducted alcohol compliance checks on Aug. 7 at 14 licensed locations within the town of Yorktown with the help of undercover, underage agents.
The effort, sponsored by the Alliance for Safe Kids, was part of a local, federally funded study to combat underage drinking. According to police, all 14 of the establishments refused to sell alcoholic beverages to the underage agent.
The following Yorktown businesses were checked and did not sell alcohol to the underage agent: Courtesy Shell, Hess Mart Rt 202, Suburban Liquors, 7-11 on Commerce Street, Yorktown Beer and Soda, Shell, Yorktown Mobil, Quick Stop Gulf, CVS, Courtesy Mobil, Park Side Wine and Liquors, Yorktown Wines, Turco’s, and the A&P Store.
Yorktown Police Chief Dan McMahon said the compliance checks are made possible through a Drug-Free Communities grant that was awarded to the Alliance for Safe kids through the Westchester County Stop DWI Program.
The random and unannounced compliance checks will continue, police said.
