Thousands of Yorktown Heights residents kicked off the unofficial start to summer Saturday at the 24th Annual Community Day.
The Alliance for Safe Kids hosted the 24th annual event featuring the Taste of Yorktown Saturday at Jack DeVito Veterans Memorial Field. Jewel of Himalaya won the Best Yorktown Signature Dish, Nuttin’ To It won the People’s Choice award, Big Al’s BBQ took the award for Best BBQ and Oreo Dream Team won the first-ever Best Cupcake award, ASK representatives said in a press release.
“The day was a tremendous success,” said Lisa Tomeny, Executive Director of ASK in the release. “It was truly a community effort with everyone working together to create one day to share our talent, skills and
resources with each other. Our community spirit is an essential ingredient in strengthening the safety net (that) supports our youth.”
Also on site were rides and inflatables for the kids as well as emergency vehicles from the Yorktown Police Department, Yorktown Fire Department and the Yorktown Volunteer Ambulance Corp.
