Here are a few more mindfulness tips to help manage the changes from summer to school routines.
Talk to your student. When we’re very close with someone, we anticipate what a loved one’s going through without actually stopping to ask. Honest, interested questions will give your student the courage to open up.
Create calm moments. Your student is distracted with school preparations and transitions, and you may be distracted by the change in routines. Set aside a moment for relaxing as a family by sharing a meal or having a family movie night.
Accept yourself. Your student won’t look to you for perfection. Try to stay mindful of your own negative self-talk. If you do feel like you are speaking negatively to yourself at times, work to reframe your self-talk to something more constructive. This can help free up more space in your mind for what you and your family need to thrive.
